In 2016, there were 56 motorcyclist fatalities and in 2015/2016, 1142 motorcycle riders were compensated by the TAC for injuries involving an acute hospital admission. Half of motorcycle riders who lost their lives in 2016 and 52% of those hospitalised in 2015/2016 were aged over 40.
While the numbers of females injured have increased, males are significantly more likely to lose their lives or be seriously injured than females.
