Step 1

Get your learner permit (Ls)

You need a learner’s permit before you can ride solo. Here’s how to get one. You’ll need to complete a two-day learner course with an accredited training provider. It covers the basics of safe riding, and you'll need to pass both a practical skills assessment and a knowledge test. Step 2

Get your full motorcycle licence

Once you’ve clocked up enough practice on your Ls and met the minimum time requirements, you can go for your full licence. You'll need to complete the Check Ride, which is a half-day course that includes an off-road review of your braking, steering and low-speed manoeuvring skills, and an on-road coaching ride on a pre-determined route. You must do this at least one month before getting tested for your motorcycle licence. After this, you can do your final test with your assessing provider. These tests focus on safe decision making and real-world riding skills.
